IPL stands for intense pulsed light treatment. IPL can be used for hair reduction or photo rejuvenation.
How does IPL Hair Reduction work?
Laser hair removal targets the entire hair structure, from the hair shaft, down to the follicle, meeting the principle of selective photothermolysis. Light energy with a specific wavelength is primarily absorbed by the endogenous chromophore melanin resulting in rapid heating which is required for local thermal necrosis of the follicles’ regenerative structures.
For the best hair reduction results, New Life Clinic WA uses a medical strength Lynton Lumina IPL machine at our Claremont clinic to permanently reduce unwanted hair under the direction of a Doctor. After a short series of treatments, the majority of the unwanted hair will not return, although the results of treatments varies from person to person.
*No waxing, plucking or tweezing should be performed four to six weeks prior to your IPL hair reduction appointment.
Intense light is emitted from our medical strength IPL machine in a series of short pulses ensuring that the energy from the light is taken up by melanin (the pigment in the hair). When the melanin absorbs the light, the light energy is coverted into heat energy. The heat is then transferred into the hair follicle, leading to the destruction of the hair shaft and cells that are responsible for hair growth and regrowth. For this reason, it is important that the hair follicle not be stimulated prior to an IPL treatment.
Unwanted hair that is going to disappear permanently, will usually stop growing within the initial IPL treatment. Any residual hair growth being finer, softer, lighter in colour and re-growing at a dramatically slower rate. Residual hair growth can be left alone, or you can have occasional maintenance treatments, which can vary from a few months apart to once a year.
For optimal results, clients follow the initial course regularly as recommended by your IPL Dermal therapist.
IPL hair reduction Perth treatments for the body are generally performed 4 – 6 weeks apart, while IPL facial hair removal treatments should be done between 2 – 4 weeks apart.
