Novel Coronavirus – Statement from New Life Clinic WA

With the recent outbreak and spread of the Novel Coronavirus, Dr Sanjay Nadkarni and the team at New Life Clinic WA wish to assure all of our patients that we are taking every precaution to protect both our patients and our staff.

What is a coronavirus and COVID-19?

Coronaviruses can make humans and animals sick. Some coronaviruses can cause illness similar to the common cold and others can cause more serious diseases, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). This new coronavirus originated in Hubei Province, China and the disease outbreak is named COVID-19.

How is this coronavirus spread?

The coronavirus is most likely to spread from person-to-person through:

  • direct close contact with a person while they are infectious
  • close contact with a person with a confirmed infection who coughs or sneezes, or
  • touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face.

Most infections are only transmitted by people when they have symptoms. These can include fever, a cough, sore throat, tiredness and shortness of breath.

What are we doing at New Life Clinic WA to keep our staff and patients safe?

Our hygiene routine in between patients has always been extremely stringent and only using medical grade antibacterial disinfectants.  All staff have been re-trained on these hygiene techniques in light of this new threat and you will now see our reception staff also utilising these hand sanitisers.

New Life Clinic WA have a strict policy of no direct contact with patients who are feeling unwell. Patients who have  fever and symptoms of the flu should see their GP and be screened for infection prior to visiting the clinic.  Please remember it is important to call ahead to the GP clinic before arriving to protect their staff and other patients.  Similarly if you have travelled through a high risk area (see Australian Govt web site) please ensure you have quarantine yourself for 14 days before visiting our clinic.
